Last week, and following the student briefing, the project kicked off with a stitch workshop, lead by UCF lecturer Hannah Maughan and Mixed Media technician Irene Griffin. Here are some photos from the day:
The students are being asked to use the traditional techniques of Lambani emboidery, investigating these stitches with fresh eyes and taking them forward into a new setting to create a dialogue between themselves and the embroiderers of Kushala Kala Kendra.
Using samples of the Kushala Kala Kendra products, sent by Praveen in Sandur, the students practice the new stitches before they will start to combine them to create their own designs.

They are being asked to take the story and history of Kushala Kala Kendra as a starting point to explore the potential for collaboration and craft in a contemporary setting.
